Srinagar, December 16: Pakistan stand-in skipper Shadab Khan has reportedly regained fitness and is likely going lead Pakistan in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand.

As per reports Shadab participated in a net session earlier today where he bowled and batted. He also took part in an extensive training and fielding session.

The all-rounder is now on his way to lead the Pakistan in the absence of Babar Azam, who fractured his thumb while practicing on Sunday.

Earlier Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday said that Shadab is struggling with a groin niggle. He also missed the Zimbabwe T20Is due to a similar injury and decision on his participation in the Auckland T20I will be made closer to the match.

Pakistan squad for New Zealand T20Is:

Shadab Khan (captain), Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan, Musa Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Qadir and Wahab Riaz. Babar Azam (withdrawn due to injury)
