CricketShahid Afridi wants Pakistan to travel to India for World Cup

Srinagar: Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has once again expressed his desire that Pakistan should be travelling to India for the World Cup 2023.

PCB and BCCI have been at loggerheads over the hosting venue for Asia Cup. Pakistan are due to host the tournament this year but the BCCI had refused to allow the Indian team to travel to Pakistan for the tournament citing security issues.

The PCB then proposed a “hybrid model” to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the Asia Cup 2023, which would see Pakistan playing its matches in the country and India playing its matches in a neutral venue.

Most recently in an interview with Indian media, Sethi had clarified that Pakistan will not play their World Cup matches in India in case India don’t play their Asia Cup matches in Pakistan.

“Pakistan team should tour India for the World Cup. This will send a positive message about Pakistan supporting cricket,” Shahid Afridi was quoted as saying.

“Asia Cup should take place in Pakistan. I think cricket and politics should be kept separate,” he said. “There should be no further delay with regards to final decision on the Asia Cup,” he added.

Wahab Riaz has also called for a peaceful resolution between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the participation of both teams in the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.
