Srinagar, Sep 9: Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has lashed out at Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah ul Haq for not accepting the responsibility of Pakistan cricket teams downslide.
Akhtar reacted in response to Misbah’s comments regarding teams slide before he took over as coach.
“Playing here and there will not help Misbah in gaining the support of fans. If I had been in his place, I would have said that it is my fault, I will set it right,” said Akhtar on a local sports channel.
“Saying that the team was already going down, what sort of talk was that? If he makes a strong statement, I will be the first person to support him,” he added.
Misbah on Monday while speaking to reporters justified his performance so far as a head coach when he was asked about team’s debacle in T20Is during a presser on Monday.
“When I took over the coaching, the performance of our T20 team was going down. We lost to South Africa, England. The main aspect of declining was the performances of our main players,” he was quoted saying.
Pakistan is currently ranked number four in ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. Pakistan only won a series against Bangladesh since Misbah took charge as head coach-cum-chief selector. Whereas, lost against Sri Lanka, Australia, and leveled three matches T20I series against England recently.
