Shooting ball screening by Sports Council raise questions

LocalShooting ball screening by Sports Council raise questions

The screening of lesser known sports discipline shooting ball by screening committee of J&K State Sports Council for National event has raised many eyebrows as the said sports discipline has held almost no activity in the State.

Sports Council screening committee recently conducted the screening of the players of State shooting ball team that is scheduled to take part in the National shooting ball championship in Jaipur.

The screening of the team has raised many eyebrows with even senior members of the committee questioning the existence of the team in lieu of no visibility at ground level.

“Screening committee members initially expressed their reluctance in allowing team to take part. However they later signed the papers and one doesn’t understand whether their objections were cleared or not,” said Sports Council official.Shooting Ball

“The main objection raised by members was that shooting ball association has held almost no activity in State and no one even knows its existence in State. For selection of team association has to announce through various mediums to public for open trials. However no such procedure was followed in this case. Despite all the objection committee allowed the team to take part in the national event,” official said.

A senior Sports Council member said that the said Association has not done selection or any activity and the players who are part of the team seem to be there only for participation certificates.

“While we were doing screening we noticed that players have no proper knowledge of the particular sport in which they are participating. They looked disinterested and it was clear they are going for national participation only to get certificate. Moreover we have not noticed any event and selection process of the said sport held in State recently,” member said.
