Srinagar: Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said that he started cricket because of Imran Khan while as Waqar Younis was hs greater inspiration.

“My greatest inspiration was obviously Waqar Younis. I used to learn a lot from him,” Shoaib Akhtar said while speaking during in an event. The video of his speech was posted on Twitter.

Shoaib made his international debut in 1997 when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were already in the side.

Later on, Akhtar had went on to play under the captaincy of Waqar Younis, including the ICC World Cup 2003 in South Africa.

Akhtar also mentioned that he started playing the sport of cricket by watching former Pakistan World Cup winning captain, Imran Khan.

“I started playing cricket while watching Imran Khan,” he added.

Akhtar represented Pakistan across 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is. He has also the record of bowling the fastest ball ever, clocking 161.3 km/h (100.2 mph) in a World Cup match against England in 2003.
