Clashes erupted on Wednesday at Boys Degree College Khanabal in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after police hoist tricolour during a sports event in college campus.
Reports said that the hoisting of tricolour infuriated the students who objected the move. However, the police officials could not cool the tempers and soon the situation turned ugly, triggering clashes between students and police in the college campus.
An eye witness said that the protesting students set ablaze a tent and also pelted police with stones.
Police also fired several tear-gas canisters to disperse the protesting students.
