Srinagar: Star young batsman of Kashmir Ahmad Omar Banday got off to a decent enjoyable start to his cricket stint in England on Saturday for the Bury Cricket Club against Heyside Cricket Club in Greater Manchester Cricket League (GMCL) Division 1 at Bury Sports Club, Radcliffe Rd.
In his opening match for the Bury in the league as their professional overseas player, Banday scored 16 runs and took one wicket in low scoring tie.
Bury Cricket Club defeated Heyside CC by five wickets. Batting first Heyside CC got all out for 149 runs in 44.2 overs. Apart from other Bury bowlers, Banday who is mostly known for batting bowled three overs. In his three overs he gave away only six runs and took one wicket.
However, G Nolte was star of the inning taking seven wicket haul for Bury.
In reply Bury achieved target for the loss of only five wickets in 43.5 overs. Opening the batting for his club, Banday scored 16 runs from 27 balls that included three boundaries before becoming victim of S Seyibokwe. He fell with score on 36. J Wiggins and MA Iqbal batted brilliantly for Bury. Wiggins got out after scoring 48 while as Iqbal remained unbeaten on 46.
It was first match of the league for Banday after joining Bury club recently.
