Amid the global pandemic of Coronavirus there is huge uncertainty on the conduct of ICC Cricket T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.

Now in a latest twist, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairmain Ehsan Mani has said that it is impossible to stage event like T20 World Cup this year.

Speaking to journalists via teleconference on Wednesday, Mani said that the logistical challenge of keeping 16 teams in a bio-secure environment to limit the risk of COVID-19 makes it difficult in staging the tournament.

“We have had a lot of discussions and the feeling is that it would not be possible this year. ICC has World Cups scheduled in 2021 and 2023, so we have a gap year where we can adjust this event,” he said.

“This is okay for one or two teams but when 12-16 teams play in a T20 tournament, it becomes an impossible thing,” he added.

Mani, who also heads the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Rights Committee that the talks are taking place on what event will take place first and where.

International Cricket Council (ICC) has postponed the decision on T20 World Cup 2020 until next month with the hope to get the current situation settled down.
