With Goverment on Sunday in its Lockdown four easing out restrictions on sports events, BCCI has said that it is too early to talk obout hosting of Indian Premier League that was postponed due to global pandemic of IPL.
Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday declared that sports stadiums can now be opened but that spectators will not be permitted, which means that the IPL, if it does take place, will have to go ahead behind closed doors.
But with travel restrictions still in place, both within the country and from abroad, hosting a tournament in the current scenario is still not a likely occurrence.
“Taking into the account the restrictions on air travel and movement of people till May 31, the BCCI will wait further before organising a skill-based training camp for its contracted players,” Arun Dhumal, the BCCI treasurer was quoted by ESPNCricinfo, said.
“The board reiterates that the safety and well-being of its athletes and support staff is paramount and will not rush into any decision that can hamper or jeopardise India’s efforts in containing the spread of the virus.”
In addition to a travel allowance that will facilitate both the organising of the tournament, as well as the participation of overseas players, Dhumal said a window will have to be worked out, with a majority of the traditional window having now lapsed.
