Srinagar, July 29: Pakistan cricketer, Umar Akmal’s ban has been halved down to 18 months from 3 years following a trial with an independent Adjudicator.

The right-handed batsman was earlier handed a 3-year ban after failing to report bookie-contact a couple of times. He, however, had challenged the ban imposed on him.

Bearing some fruits, the younger Akmal brother got his ban reduced to 18 months. Happy with the move, Akmal said:

“I am thankful to the judge for listening to my lawyers properly,”

“I will decide about the remaining sentence and try to get it reduced further. For now I am not satisfied and will consult my lawyers and family how to take this ahead. There are many players before me who made mistakes and just look at what they got and what I got. So all I say right now is thank you very much.” He was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

His elder brother, Kamran Akmal, had also earlier spoken about his ban, terming it ‘harsh’.
