CricketWahab Riaz pulls out of Champions Trophy due to ankle injury

EDGBASTON – Pakistan’s fast bowler Wahab Riaz has withdrawn from the remaining matches of ongoing Champions Trophy after injuring his ankle while bowling against India on Sunday.

A scan has confirmed that Wahab suffered a deltoid ligament complex after an eversion injury mechanism whilst bowling during the last encounter. The pacer will need two weeks to recover, leaving him with no option than to head home.

It bears mentioning that the left-arm pacer was lampooned on social media as he bagged the most expensive figures in the Champions Trophy with 87 off 8.1 wicket-less overs against Pakistan’s arch-rival India.wahab

He twisted his ankle in his follow-through in the 46th over of the innings and the PCB has put in a request for a replacement player to the ICC Technical Committee.

Pakistan’s second group game is against South Africa on June 7 (tomorrow) and teh Green Shirts seem to be in total confusion after the drubbing defeat against India.

High Octane Encounter

The power packed Indian team overpowered Green shirts on Sunday in their first encounter at Edgbaston by 124 runs.

India came out as the superior side, defeating Pakistan in a match marred by rain and sloppy fielding.

Pakistan after winning the toss invited its arch-rival to bat first after which it found no end to their aggression as they set a mammoth 320 runs target.

Visibly scared over the giant target, Pakistan started off and lost early wickets and subsequently registered another defeat against India after getting bowled out for a mere 164 runs in just 34 overs.
