CricketYOU NEED STRONG ARMS, NOT SMOOTH ARMS: SANA MIR ATTACKS ADVERTISING COMPANIES

Sana Mir, former captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team has put the social media ablaze after she attacked local advertising companies for setting unrealistic standards of beauty for women to follow.Sana-Mir

The 32-year-old cricketer had turned to Facebook to lash out on advertising companies who endorse female objectification through unapproachable and idealistic standards of beauty.

“We see endless posts and statuses on social media expressing our anger. But I have seen very few sponsors or celebrities actually take a stand to support women being comfortable in their own skin,” stated Mir in her post.

Addressing celebrities and sponsors, Mir had criticized them for speaking for women rights, all the while promoting a culture that stands for the exact opposite. “We see endless posts and statuses on social media expressing our anger. But I have seen very few sponsors or celebrities actually take a stand to support women being comfortable in their own skin.”

Targeting a recently aired advertisement of a hair removal product, featuring one of Pakistan’s most venerated actors Mahira Khan, Mir had stated that messages encoded in commercials about a girl’s worth being directly relative to her physical appearance backs the culture of body shaming and objectification of the female body.
